Janet Milligan is an experienced Registered Social Worker, with over 10 years’ experience. She is known to be deeply caring, easy to work with and dedicated to helping her clients heal the emotional pains that interfere with daily living.
Janet specializes in working with children and adolescents, and provides online psychotherapyappointments to children (10 and over), adolescents and adults. Additionally she provides parental support therapy for those parents looking for guidance.
Janet is a graduate of McMaster University where she earned a BA and Bachelor of Social degrees concurrently. She began her Social Work career in 2007, and at that time she worked in child welfare services. By 2010 she began working more closely with individuals, and shifted her focus to clinical practice. She completed a Clinical Master of Social Work Degree in 2011 at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Janet is trained in a variety of mental health modalities to assist individuals with anxiety, mood disorders, relationship issues and difficult life histories. She completed an EMDRIA Approved Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Basic Training in 2018, and is currently working towards becoming Internationally Certified in EMDR therapy under supervision.
As an EMDR-trained therapist, Janet has expanded her areas of psychotherapy treatment to include trauma and dissociation. Janet defines trauma to include both ‘large’ traumas such as natural disasters, car accidents, abuse and sexual traumas as well as ‘smaller’ traumas such as criticisms, relationship break-ups, feeling humiliated, feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem.
Janet is currently accepting new clients for EMDR therapy, and is delighted to join Dawn and the team at DAWN Associates. She is currently working remotely, offering online appointments on Thursdays with daytime and evening appointments available.
