Dawn Zivanovich, MSW, RSW,  EMDRIA Approved Consultant and EMDR Therapist

Dawn Zivanovich, founder of DAWN Associates, is an experienced Registered Social Worker, EMDRIA Approved Consultant and EMDR Therapist.  She offers Consultation to EMDR Therapists and those working towards EMDR Certification.

As well, she consults with Social Workers and Psychotherapists regarding their clinical cases and in starting up and establishing their private business practices.

Her sensitivity and knowledge has been helpful to clients of all ages.  Her dedication to continuing education and skill-building has enabled her to carry on with her own journey of personal and professional growth.

Dawn’s expertise ranges from working with individuals, couples and seniors with a wide variety of issues and challenges.

Counselling methods include CBT, elements of Positive Psychology, Mindfulness and Meditation and EMDR Therapy which incorporates somatic and psychodynamic treatment.  Dawn’s services as a Registered Social Worker, and under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist, are covered by most insurance benefit plans.

Her private practice spans over 30 years of skills and experience and includes, for example, maintaining and providing Employee Assistance Programs.  Dawn Associates has contracted with companies such as St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton over the years.

Dawn provides online and telephone counselling as well as in-person therapy in Hamilton.

Connie Marangwanda, MSW, RSW   

Connie brings more than two decades’ experience as a Registered Social Worker, offering a holistic approach to mental health and wellbeing that is evidence-based, creative and spiritual.

Her experience includes extensive work with women, children, men, couples and families providing thorough assessments and treatment plans to heal deeply rooted emotional and behavioural patterns. 

Connie’s treatment modalities include Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Concurrent Disorders, as well as EMDR (certification pending), CBT, mindfulness/meditation, ACT, IFS, solution focused brief therapy, motivational interviewing, narrative therapy, experiential therapies and addiction treatment.

With over 24 years of post Master of Social Work (MSW, Wilfrid Laurier University, 1998) experience, Connie brings a well informed perspective to addressing the needs of DAWN Associates clients.

Alex Sellors, MSW, RSW

Alex Sellors is an experienced Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist who specializes in working with various forms of traumas.

She has  experience working with  PTSD, complex traumatic stress, disassociation, childhood abuse and neglect, intimate partner violence, traumatic incidents and vicarious trauma. Alex also works with anxiety, stress, compassion fatigue, substance abuse, grief/loss and end-of-life support.

She is known as a caring and professional provider who works with a variety of adult individuals including first responders, healthcare and mental health workers and Indigenous clients through NIHB.

Alex attained her BA in Psychology from the University of Guelph  before completing her Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Toronto. Alex has spent most of her career working in the hospital system in the emergency department and outpatient mental health.

Alex uses an integrative approach when working with trauma and other concerns. She incorporates the following modalities: EMDR, somatic approaches, solution-focused therapy, CBT, ACT, and DBT –Dialectical Behavioural Therapy which is a comprehensive, evidence-based treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD).

Alex is seeing clients both in-person at our Hamilton office or virtually via video conference or telephone.

Salima Chehardine, MSW, RSW

Salima is an experienced Registered Social Worker with over 8 years’ experience. Fluent in three languages – English, Arabic and French – Salima has extensive experience helping immigrants adjust to life in Canada.

She is well regarded for helping students and their families facing difficulties in coping with challenges in school and their community. She is equally adept at working with children (ages 4 and up) and adolescents, providing support for ADHD, autism and learning difficulties as well as emotional and behavioural challenges.

Also, Salima provides mental and emotional support to adults with depression, anxiety, stress and social phobias.  She is eclectic in her approach and utilizes a variety of therapies in her sessions including CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy), Solution-Focused therapy, Family systems theory, Motivational interviewing, ACT therapy, and EFT (Emotionally- focused therapy.

Salima earned her Masters Degree in Social Work from Dalhousie University, attained her BA in Social Work from the University of Manitoba as well as her BA in Psychology from the University of Algiers.

Salima is currently accepting new clients for individual and family therapy, and is delighted to join Dawn and the team at DAWN Associates. She is currently working remotely and offering telephone or virtual online appointments.

Janet Milligan, MSW, RSW

(On Sabbatical until further notice)

Janet Milligan is an experienced Registered Social Worker, with over 10 years’ experience, and is a Certified EMDR Therapist. She is known to be deeply caring, easy to work with and dedicated to helping her clients heal the emotional pains that interfere with daily living.

Janet specializes in working with individual adults, children and adolescents, and provides online, telephone and in person psychotherapy appointments to children (10 and over), adolescents and adults. Additionally she provides parental support therapy, as well as therapy for Indigenous clients through NIHB.

Janet is a graduate of McMaster University where she earned a BA and Bachelor of Social degrees concurrently. She began her Social Work career in 2007, and at that time she worked in child welfare services. By 2010 she began working more closely with individuals, and shifted her focus to clinical practice. She completed a Clinical Master of Social Work Degree in 2011 at Wilfrid Laurier University.

Janet is trained in a variety of mental health modalities to assist individuals with anxiety, mood disorders, relationship issues and difficult life histories.

As an EMDR-trained therapist, Janet has expanded her areas of psychotherapy treatment to include trauma and dissociation. Janet defines trauma to include both ‘large’ traumas such as natural disasters, car accidents, abuse and sexual traumas as well as ‘smaller’ traumas such as criticisms, relationship break-ups, feeling humiliated, feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem.

Janet’s schedule is flexible for telephone and virtual sessions.
